Official: Russia, Ukraine reach preliminary gas transit agreement

VIENNA, Dec 13 (PRIME) -- Ukraine and Russia have attained a preliminary agreement on gas transit and will continue to discuss the details, energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Yury Vitrenko told PRIME on Friday after a meeting with Russian gas giant Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller.

“Discussion continues on various levels. We continue to discuss the details,” Vitrenko said. “There are preliminary agreements and we continue to discuss them. There is no final layout (of the deal).”

The date of the next round of the Russia–Ukraine negotiations is unclear and depends on progress, he said.

Ukraine ceased gas purchases from Russia in November 2015. The current supply and transit contracts between Russia and Ukraine expire at the end of 2019.
